You may have only a day or two a year, a few hours a month, or maybe extra time each week which you would like to volunteer for the Yorktown Historical Society. Address and stuff 300+ envelopes for quarterly newsletter
Write articles about the history of Yorktown for the newsletter (300-500 words)
Help with the Society's table or booth during Community Day or the Best Dam Race
Present an historic topic during a program meeting to the membership
Write a story about an historic home in Yorktown
Draft volunteer job descriptions for volunteer activities
Be a "hamlet ambassador" for the Society
Prepare grant proposals for government agencies
Prepare grant proposals for consideration by businesses and corporations
Interview residents about the oral history of our hamlets
Write historical articles for our web site
Scan photos for archiving on our web site (requires knowledge of Adobe Photoshop software)
Write press releases on programs and events
Conduct clean-up activities at historic burial grounds
Prepare and conduct surveys with our membership, trustees and community leaders
Research microfilm of The Highland Democrat and other local newspapers at the Field library in Peekskill on community information regarding the Yorktown hamlets of Jefferson Valley, Mohegan Lake, Shrub Oak, and Yorktown Heights among others
Prepare articles from The North County News and the Yorktowner for publication on our web site.
