Yorktown Historical Society and Taconic Road Runners Race Against Time with the "Best Dam Race" in Support of Historic Preservation

May 10, 1999

Yorktown Heights, NY: Racing against time to help historic preservation, the Yorktown Historical Society announces the "Best Dam Race," which will be organized by Yorktown Historical Society Board Trustee, Bob Giordano, and managed by the Taconic Road Runners.

The race will take place on Sunday, August 29, 1999, and begin at 9 a.m. with the starting point at the Old Croton Dam Bridge and Arcady Road. It will end near the New Croton Dam with ceremonies held at Croton Gorge Park. Entertainment by Irish step dancers and bag pipers will follow the race to highlight the ethnic heritage of the Irish workers who helped build the Croton Dams. The race will benefit the Yorktown Historic Society's Historic Preservation Fund. Supporting the event through various activities will be the Town of Yorktown, Westchester County Parks, and the Department of Environmental Protection.

The Society's Historic Preservation Fund was established to ensure that our heritage-the buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes that make up our rich legacy from the past-is kept alive. Contributions should be made payable to the Yorktown Historical Society in support of the Historic Preservation Fund and mailed to P. O. Box 355 Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
