Historic Yorktown
Amawalk Friends Meeting House
circa 1831

The Religious Society of Friends, more popularly known as Quakers, have been meeting at Amawalk and the Yorktown area since the mid-1760s. Two previous buildings built in 1773 and 1787 were destroyed by fire. The current building is firmly rooted in the Quaker aesthetic of plainness, simplicity and equality.
